Aurora

Aurora Aksnes was born 15 June 1996 in Stavanger, Norway. Professionally known as Aurora or sometimes stylized with uppercase letters as AURORA. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves by Decca Records was released on May 15th of 2015 and was praised by both music bloggers and the media. She has previously released two top-of-the-line covers Half the World Away by Oasis. Oasis as a Christmas commercial from John Lewis and Nature Boy by Nat King Cole. She gained some further recognition thanks to a Facebook post from Katy Perry where Perry endorsed her track Runaway. It was her birthday. Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding an instrument hidden in her attic and becoming fascinated with the sounds it created. Parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as professional or as a pastime, but as a way to develop. To do this she began to write original compositions. Like Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. Her mom encouraged her to sing her music publicly, not in order to become famous but rather assist others in understanding how valuable the music they compose and what they can do for the world. Her first piano lesson was when she was six years old and started writing songs at the age of nine. It took until her 14th birthday when she first told her parents. There was no way she could have imagined to be Aurora. She claims that she enjoys writing songs. She believes that music is the ideal way to be able to feel any emotion.
